But hey, there’s a right and wrong way to go about it!


Here are some do’s and don’ts to keep in mind:

Do's
1. Research the market rate for your role
2. Be confident but polite—negotiation is a conversation, not a demand.
3. Highlight your achievements and the value you bring.
4. Practice your pitch before the actual conversation.
5. Know your worth, and don’t settle for less.


Don’ts:
1. Don’t start the negotiation with a number—wait for the employer to make an offer.
2. Don’t get emotional—it’s a professional discussion.
3. Don’t say yes to the first offer just because you feel awkward.
4. Don’t compare your salary to others—focus on your own value.
5. Don’t rush—take time to think before you agree.
