The MCU is selling tickets again. The stream is the warm-up act.

Marvel spent two years asking people to wait at home. This week it asked them to buy a ticket.

Avengers Endgame: Encore returned to IMAX and Infinity Vision screens on September 25 with extra footage and a Doomsday peek. Sixteen days later, VisionQuest lands on Disney+. December 18 is still the main event. The studio is stacking the calendar on purpose.

That is the short version of this week in Marvel, OTT, and the gossip sitting around both.

What is actually in theaters right now

Marvel's own listing for the encore is blunt: the 2019 film is back from September 25, tickets are live, and IMAX / Infinity Vision bookings get an extra Avengers: Doomsday tease. The official write-up is on Marvel.com.

This is not a nostalgia dump with no job. Anthony Russo has called the encore a companion beat for December, not a replacement for the original cut. Early viewers say the new material is short — extra seconds and end tags more than a new act — which is exactly how a studio keeps the original watch order intact.

If you only stream, you can still run the Infinity Saga on Disney+. The encore is for people who want the room, the sound, and the December preview in the same night.

The next MCU drop is not a movie. It is VisionQuest.

Paul Bettany is back as White Vision. James Spader is back as Ultron. Showrunner Terry Matalas frames the eight-episode run as the last chapter of the trilogy that started with WandaVision and continued with Agatha All Along. Premiere date: October 14 on Disney+. The plot, in the studio's words: Vision has been hiding after people tried to weaponize him. He talks to the AIs still living in his head — F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S., and Ultron. A bounty forces him on the road with Thomas Shepard, a boy who may be tied to his past.

Two episodes also screen at the London Film Festival on October 12. That is a theatrical appetizer for a streaming show, the reverse of what Marvel did for years.

If you watch on a phone more than a TV, the same week is when people will argue about which slab is good enough for HDR night scenes. That debate is already live in the U.S. iPhone 18 Pro Max modem teardown and in the case for why iPhone Duo is not a folded Pro Max.

Doomsday is already selling like an event

Deadline put domestic Avengers: Doomsday pre-sales over $50 million with more than three months to go. The film is locked for December 18. Comic-Con put Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr. as Doom, Pedro Pascal, Anthony Mackie and a hall full of X-Men and Fantastic Four names on the same stage.

Ryan Reynolds crashed the panel in a Deadpool suit and asked to be in the movie. That clip is the gossip people are still forwarding. It is also a tell: Marvel wants the December date to feel like 2019 again, not like another Tuesday thumbnail.

The same week, Mahershala Ali said Kevin Feige should feel Blade as a failure. Wesley Snipes got a public nod after Ali walked. That is the other half of the Marvel conversation: the films that did not make the new stack.

OTT around the MCU, and the celebrity noise

Disney+ is not only parking VisionQuest. Toy Story 5 is sitting at the top of the service in the U.S. The Mandalorian and Grogu is still in the same row. Netflix's current movie chart is led by UNABOMBER, not a cape title. Prime is pushing Neagley, the Reacher spinoff. Apple TV has Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh in Mayday, which is the non-MCU Reynolds title people will mix up with the Hall H stunt.

• Amazon canceled Spider-Noir after eight episodes. Two days later it won five Creative Arts Emmys. Nicolas Cage's first regular TV role ended on a press release and an awards list in the same weekend.
• Ryan Gosling is Marvel's new Ghost Rider, Shawn Levy directing, 2028. Ryan Coogler is back for Black Panther 3 on December 15, 2028, with David Jonsson as T'Challa's son. Those dates are far. They are also why Feige spent Hall H saying the next phase is movies first.
