New on OTT This Week (Oct 5–11, 2026): Animals, Mandaadi, Reporting Live, Spider-Man: Brand New Day and More

The second weekend of October has quietly turned into one of the busiest streaming weeks of the year. Between October 6 and October 10, 2026, Netflix dropped a Ben Affleck thriller, a Parineeti Chopra newsroom drama and a stack of South Indian theatrical hits, while Prime Video and Apple TV opened digital rentals for the biggest superhero film of the summer. If your watchlist is already groaning, don't worry: we've sorted the week's new OTT releases into what's worth your Saturday night, what's worth a lazy Sunday, and what can wait.

Every pick below comes with the platform, the date it landed, the language and a spoiler-free reason to press play.

Hollywood Thrillers Worth a Late Night

Rain-soaked city skyline at night in red and blue tones, a cinematic thriller mood

Animals (Netflix)

  • Where to watch: Netflix
  • Released: October 9, 2026
  • Language: English
  • Genre: Political crime thriller, 1 hr 48 min
  • Cast: Ben Affleck (who also directs), Kerry Washington, Gillian Anderson, Steven Yeun

A Los Angeles mayoral candidate and his wife see their carefully managed public life fall apart when their young son is kidnapped for ransom. Raising the money is only the start; every choice after that costs them something. Netflix has the full cast and first-look photos on its official Animals page on Tudum.

Why watch: Affleck behind the camera has a strong track record with grounded, tense crime stories, and this one moves like a ticking clock without wasting a minute.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day (Rent or Buy)

  • Where to watch: Digital rental/purchase on Prime Video and Apple TV (premium video on demand)
  • Released digitally: October 6, 2026 (in theatres since July 2026)
  • Language: English
  • Genre: Superhero action
  • Cast: Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo; directed by Destin Daniel Cretton

Set four years after No Way Home, Peter Parker is fighting crime alone in a world that no longer remembers who he is, until a new threat pulls him back in alongside an unlikely ally. It isn't on a subscription plan yet, so you'll pay a rental or purchase price for now. If you've been tracking how Marvel's newer heroes are landing, our review of Captain America: Brave New World is a handy companion read.

Why watch: If you missed it in theatres, this is the big crowd-pleaser of the year, and it plays well on a large TV with the volume up.

Also New: Insidious: Out of the Further and Mortal Kombat II

Insidious: Out of the Further (English, supernatural horror) opened for digital rental on Prime Video and Apple TV on October 6, with Amelia Eve leading this sixth chapter as a young mother who discovers she can pull things out of The Further. Mortal Kombat II (English, action) arrived on JioHotstar on October 8, with Earthrealm's fighters gearing up to face Shao Kahn. Why watch: one is a lights-off scare, the other is pure popcorn brawling, so pick your mood.

Indian Films and Series Streaming This Week

Traditional sailboats racing at sunset on the open sea

Mandaadi (Netflix)

  • Where to watch: Netflix
  • Released: October 8, 2026 (theatrical release: September 10, 2026)
  • Language: Tamil, with Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada dubs
  • Genre: Sports action drama
  • Cast: Soori, Suhas, Mahima Nambiar, Sathyaraj; directed by Mathimaran Pugazhendhi

Soori plays Muthukaali, a gifted racer in traditional sailboat competitions, while Suhas is the rival determined to beat him. Beyond the races, it's a story about pride and life in a coastal community.

Why watch: It had a strong theatrical run, the race sequences feel fresh for Indian sports cinema, and Suhas gets a meaty role that Telugu audiences will enjoy.

Reporting Live (Netflix)

  • Where to watch: Netflix
  • Released: October 9, 2026
  • Language: Hindi
  • Genre: Investigative thriller
  • Cast: Parineeti Chopra, Shekhar Suman, Adil Hussain, Amol Palekar

An ambitious young journalist and a seasoned cameraman chase a story about an illegal sand-mining syndicate and find a conspiracy far bigger, and far more dangerous, than a headline.

Why watch: A newsroom thriller with a strong supporting cast and a social issue that rarely gets screen time.

Pradhama Drishtiya Kuttakkar (Netflix)

  • Where to watch: Netflix
  • Released: October 9, 2026
  • Language: Malayalam, with Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi versions
  • Genre: Investigative crime thriller
  • Cast: Parvathy Thiruvothu, Mathew Thomas, Vijayaraghavan; directed by Shahad

A newly recruited police officer, who is also a mother, is caught up in a fatal incident at her own station, and an investigator begins to unpick the cover-up.

Why watch: Malayalam cinema keeps setting the bar for slow-burn procedurals, and Parvathy is always worth showing up for.

Khalifa: The Ruler (Prime Video)

Prithviraj Sukumaran leads this action thriller as a textile shop owner pulled into a gold-trading case linked to his father, which leads him to his estranged grandfather's legacy. It was among the October 9 Friday drops. Why watch: mass action with a family-saga backbone.

Feel-Good Telugu Picks for a Lazy Sunday

Two silhouettes against warm bokeh city lights at night, a romantic mood

Epic: First Semester (Netflix)

  • Where to watch: Netflix
  • Released: October 9, 2026
  • Language: Telugu, with Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi versions
  • Genre: Romantic coming-of-age drama
  • Cast: Anand Deverakonda, Vaishnavi Chaitanya; directed by debutant Aditya Haasan, music by Hesham Abdul Wahab

Aditya, an aspiring filmmaker studying in London, meets Kadali, and a nine-month "keep it casual" arrangement gets harder to keep as their dreams pull in different directions.

Why watch: The Baby pair reunites, and Hesham Abdul Wahab's music alone makes this an easy Sunday-evening watch.

Least Eligible Bachelor (ETV Win)

  • Where to watch: ETV Win
  • Released: October 9, 2026
  • Language: Telugu
  • Genre: Comedy drama
  • Cast: Harsha Chemudu, Hyper Aadi, Aishwarya Holakkal; written and directed by Babu Degala

When a young man's family decides his marriage is a family emergency, he ends up branded the "least eligible bachelor" in town.

Why watch: Harsha Chemudu carries the film with easy comic timing, and the family-pressure humour will feel very familiar to a lot of viewers. Telugu films have taken a winding road to OTT before; we covered one memorable case in our Vakeel Saab OTT release story.

Quick Hits: Reality TV and K-Drama

  • The Kardashians, Season 8 (JioHotstar, October 9, English, reality): the family is back with another inside look at work and home life.
  • Pati Patni Aur Panga, Season 2 (JioHotstar, October 10, Hindi, reality game show): celebrity couples take on challenges that test how well they really know each other.
  • 100 Days of Deception (Netflix, October 10, Korean, period spy romance): in 1932 Gyeongseong, a pickpocket goes undercover as an interpreter with 100 days to pull off a dangerous mission.

For everything else landing on the service this month, Netflix keeps its own running list on New on Netflix in October 2026.

Our Pick for the Weekend

Projector beam sweeping over rows of empty red cinema seats

If you only have time for one, make it Animals. It's tight, adult and gripping, the kind of thriller that's easy to start and very hard to pause. For a regional pick, Mandaadi is the one to beat: an underdog sports film with real spectacle, available in five languages so the whole family can watch together. And if you're in the mood to splurge, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is worth the rental for a big-screen night at home.
